Education in The Flows

RSPB’s Forsinard Flows National Nature Reserve offers a range of great learning opportunities. They can work with you and your students to create an interactive, hands-on experience with the peatlands.

This wonderful landscape leads itself so well to many areas of the curriculum from early primary discovery to Higher Geography field trips.

We can help you cover areas of study like: life cycles, food chains and food webs, flora and fauna, history of the Flow Country, mapping, discovery sessions on the layers of the Flow Country, the list is very long!

Find out all about the science behind carbon storage in the peatlands and why this is such an important area to preserve in the fight against climate change.

Use the Flow Country as inspiration for art, music and writing. Learn about the restoration work and how this helps the wildlife. Why not come out onto the reserve and take part in some hands on conservation work.

The visitor centre and field centre are easily accessible by train and RSPB have ample parking for a coach or minibus, making Forsinard an ideal place for outdoor and environmental curriculum-based learning.

For higher education students we can arrange tailor-made visits for colleges and universities looking at the different aspects of peatlands, including lectures from specialist staff from one or more of our partner organisations.

Our field centre also offers overnight accommodation for up to 16 people, facilities include an education room and laboratory for use through the education team.
