For Primary Schools
The Education Team at Forsinard is always happy to help with lessons and help connect young people to the natural world in an around the Flow Country. There are so many opportunities for learning in the Flow Country and we can work with you to adapt to your needs.
We can come out to schools to deliver outreach sessions, book you in to our Field Centre where you can come for a day’s activities in and around RSPB Forsinard Flows Reserve or plan a longer stay and use our bunkhouse facilities.
Have you heard of the RSPB’s Wild Challenge? Have a read about it, it is free to join and has no paperwork! All the sessions we provide will count towards your Wild Challenge Awards!
Lots of things threaten nature, but there are many positive things we can do to help.
Wild Challenge is a free award scheme that anyone can take part in, that prompts children to connect with, and learn about, nature through a series of fun and engaging activities.
At the RSPB we believe in inclusivity which is why we accept submissions from all ages and abilities. This makes Wild Challenge a perfect framework for learning. Mainly designed for primary aged school pupils in mainstream education, it can easily be adapted for Home Educators, pupils with Special Educational Needs and Early Years.
All you need to do is create an account and an online profile and within a few quick and easy steps you’ll be ready to get started with your wild challenge.
You can go as quickly or as slowly as you like and we have a whole range of accessible resources and activities to make the most of seasonality and suit your needs and location. There’s something to do throughout the year, no matter what the weather brings.
Selected other RSPB initiatives such as the Big Schools’ Birdwatch, all count towards your achievements too.

Outreach Opportunities
There are many activities which can take place at school, for example: we have delivered Big School Birdwatch sessions, where youngsters find out all about different birds of the Flow Country, make feeders, play games and spot the birds who live in their school grounds.
Or learn about what makes a perfect peatland with our Peatland Treasure Box or book us to visit your school for a pre-Christmas session, where we make natural Flow Country inspired decorations, bring in a tree and help children discover why restoration is so important.
Click on our resources page to find out about the wealth of topics you can teach using the peatlands!
Look at our Field Centre Brochure for more details about the facilities we have.
