Celebrating The Flow Country World Heritage Site
Over the next few months we’re hosting a series of film screenings throughout Scotland to celebrate the amazing achievement of the Flow Country’s recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Flow Country Partnership will be celebrating with screenings of the multi-award winning film “When Fish Begin to Crawl”. Co-directed by filmmaker Morag McKinnon and composer Jim Sutherland, it is a thought-provoking meditation on the climate crisis and humanity’s relationship with nature. With a focus on Scotland’s Flow Country, it blends art and science to reflect on present-day eco-emergencies within the context of geological deep time.
On the 13th December 2024, we’ll be hosting the first of our celebration events with an evening at Lyth Arts Centre. The evening will include a drinks reception, guest speakers and a screening of ‘When Fish Begin to Crawl’ with opportunities to meet the Flow Country Partnership team and discuss the future of the Flow Country. This is a free event open to anyone but booking will be essential as spaces are limited.

Early next year, you can find two further screenings of the film at Eden Court in Inverness on the 28th January 2025 and at the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow on the 2nd of February as part of Celtic Connections. Both of these events are immersive cinematic experiences, featuring the Royal Scottish National Orchestra performing Jim Sutherland’s multi award winning score against three huge screens, with the international award-winning film by Sutherland and BAFTA winner Morag McKinnon.
