Invest in long-term peatland restoration with carbon credits from the Flow Country

  • Globally significant carbon store
  • Measurable climate impact
  • Tangible community benefits
  • Nature-based carbon renewal

Join The Flow Country Partnership on our journey to protect and restore one of the world’s most significant peatland landscapes.

The Flow Country UNESCO World Heritage Site stores more carbon than all the UK’s forests combined – in excess of 400 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent.

By investing in carbon credits, you can help to preserve this unique ecosystem and deliver tangible benefits back into the local community.

Why invest?

Peatland Code verified

All projects are developed and verified through the Peatland Code – the UK’s recognised standard for peatland restoration projects and carbon units.

High-Integrity UK carbon units

Projects are independently validated and monitored, with carbon savings quantified through emissions modelling and long-term verification processes.

Long-Term climate impact

Peatland Code projects can run for between 30 and 100 years, creating durable climate benefits and long-term carbon value.

Wider ESG and nature benefits

Restoration delivers more than carbon reduction. Projects support biodiversity recovery, improve water quality, strengthen resilience to wildfire and flooding, and generate economic opportunities within local communities.

Community-led investment

All profits generated through the Flow Country Partnership are reinvested into peatland restoration, landscape management and community benefit projects across the region.

A premium nature-based carbon investment

The Flow Country Partnership believes our projects command a premium position within the voluntary carbon market due to:

  • UNESCO World Heritage Site status
  • High-integrity UK verification standards
  • Landscape-scale restoration
  • Strong biodiversity outcomes
  • Community benefit and local reinvestment
  • Transparent long-term stewardship

Partnership opportunities

We are seeking organisations looking to align net zero ambitions with credible, high-impact nature restoration.

Carbon units are available to purchase now, with opportunities for both one-off purchases and longer-term strategic partnerships.

Understanding the carbon units

Restoration projects generate carbon units by reducing greenhouse gas emissions from degraded peatland and restoring its ability to store carbon over time.

Two types of units are available:

Pending Issuance Units (PIUs)

PIUs represent forecast future emissions reductions and can be purchased following restoration and project validation. They allow buyers to invest early in long-term restoration outcomes.

Peatland Carbon Units (PCUs)

PCUs are verified carbon units issued after emissions reductions have been independently confirmed through the Peatland Code verification process. Verification takes place five years after restoration and every ten years thereafter.
